Desenzano was a very disappointed start of the season. I put my goal to climb a step on the ‘Olympic ranking’ aside when I cramped in the 200. But a good score and proof of form was still possible.
I started the first day with a pb in the hurdles (13.52). In the high jump my coaches and I decided it would be better if I jumped of my left leg. I trained the whole winter to jump of my right leg, but the last couple of weeks training and competitions didn’t go as expected. A solid 1.70 was the result of one training session of the left leg.
I started the shot with two fouls and had to play it safe in the third. 15.24 was a reasonable distance but I wasn’t completely happy with it. Then I ran the 200. When I wanted to push hard when I came of the turn I felt cramp. After the second attempt to push I gave up and ‘rolled’ to the finish line.
I was happy my physio Rick was there, so he could treat me immediately. Therefore, I was able to start the long jump. 5.95 wasn’t a bad distance for me, but I did expect a little bit more. And with the javelin I felt the same. 50.24 is not bad at all, but I do think I am capable of more. During the third throw I felt pain in my hamstring and my first thought was that I had torn it. I couldn’t run anymore and had to skip teh 800. That was the end of my second goal (proofing shape).
Yesterday I went to the hospital (Gelderse vallei) to do a scan. Dr Vergouwen and Dr Geertsema looked at the muscle and didn’t find a tear. They did see a little ‘bubble’ of fluid (2mm). Zooming in it turned out the fascie of the muscle was detached from the muscle (just minor as it was only 2mm). They said it is not a major injury and by following a strict regime teh next week I should be able to train in 2 weeks time. But that does mean I will miss Gotzis.
Where and when I will do my next hepathlon is not clear yet. I want to recover first and than decide what is the best thing to do. There is no pressure at the moment, as there is still a lot of time for qualifying.

Bonjour Laurien, Ce sont des nouvelles rassurantes, j’étais plutôt inquiet. Pense à Ratingen, ça te laisse un peu de temps.
Je pense bien à toi
Laurien,
Don’t panic, alles komt goed! En vergeet niet: impossible is nothing!
Hoi Laurien,
Goed om te horen dat er niet al teveel aan de hand is met je hamstring, zou zonde zijn als Nederland géén afvaardiging zou hebben van de meerkampdames.
Hi Laurien, wünsche dir alles gute für die nächsten Wochen. In Hengelo machst du alles klar! Möchte dich in Peking in 6400 Form sehen! Gruß Achim
